Troxel has always been my “go to” helmet. I am a 6 3/4 western hat size so, I buy a size small and it fits perfectly and comfortably. Air flow is good on a warm ride.

It works!
I am an adult 55+ decided to take horseback riding lessons about 3 months ago. For the first few months I used the barn helmet during my lessons. When I decided I was committed to riding for a while, I researched and purchased this Troxel helmet. I loved the style and the safety features and ratings.Last week I fell off the horse, landed on my lower back (fractured L4) before the back of my head smashed into the arena dirt. Throughout my subsequent emergency room visit, I never had , nor do I have, any head trauma whatsoever. That is all because of this helmet. I know things would have been a lot worse without it.I finally looked at the helmet today to see if it cracked and it does not appear so. There is a small compression in the inside foam from the impact of my skull.Tips: Does not offer any warmth over the ears, plan on a helmet liner on colder days. The size was right on, I measured my head exactly, ordered a small based on that. I was worried it would be too small but it arrived and fit perfectly.So: looks great, works great.Unfortunately because of my back, I may never wear it again!

Should be called the “Rainforest” model
I purchased one of these helmets and absolutely love the fit. Super comfortable and no excessive movement. I even love the piece that cradles the back of your skull instead of the ratchet system. My problem is with the ventilation. It’s hot and humid in the Midwest. When I wear the helmet, it collects moisture somewhere inside it so that when I tip my head forward, sweat gushes out from between the shell and foam into my face and onto the horse’s neck. I emailed Troxel and they said (paraphrased) that the helmet ventilation is blocked by mesh and leather so this helmet isn’t good for warmer climates and the sweat accumulation is expected. Too bad because I actually liked a helmet that was geared a bit more towards the western rider.

A nice helmet
I got this helmet to replace one that got broke in a recent accident that broke the helmet, but saved my life by protecting my head. The new helmet didn’t fit very well until I took out the part that goes down the back of it. That part pushed hard against the bottom of my head so I took it out and now it fits fine.

New Favorite Helmet
Have been a Tipperary Sportage fan for yrs, but decided to try this after seeing a friends, loving the looks of it, and trying it on. It’s awesome!! For a western rider, like myself, it is more low profile and sleeker than other helmets, light weight, very comfortable, great coverage, looks more “western”, very attractive and fits great. I tried her small (am a 6 3/4 cowboy hat size), and it was perfect. I wore Mediums in the Tipperary. Ordered a small brown, wore it twice this week and got compliments both times saying it looked great and not as big and “bubble headed” as my beloved Tipperary’s. I’m sold and will be getting another in tan or black.

Loved this helmet but I got one too small and needed a larger size. Returned to get a larger one but then came across a different one that was more low profile. But as far as ratings, this was an excellent and really good looking helmet with good safety standards quoted.
