Gorgeous webcam, has problems at 1080p 60hz.
Firstly, the hype around the image quality of this webcam is real. I came directly from the c920x and there is no comparison in terms of fidelity regardless if you are operating at 4k or at 1080p, it’s that much better. The narrow aperture and large sensor produce a cinematic depth of field that also allows for great performance in low light conditions. There is legitimately a DSLR quality in terms of IQ.With that said, there are some legitimate problems when using the camera at 1080p 60hz.#1: The autofocus when operating at 4k 30hz is mostly fine, impressive even considering the narrow depth of field. However the autofocus performance in 1080p 60hz is visibly worse. It will tend to hunt for your face, sometimes even when simply turning your head. This is the case whether you have the AF set to “Face” or “Continuous”, it is less pronounced in “Single” (but the tracking area in “Single” is very small, so it’s hard to recommend using that). Hopefully this is something that can be improved over time, for me personally it is enough that I don’t feel completely comfortable using it at 60hz.#2: The first firmware update for this camera introduced 15% to 20% crop in the field of view when operating at 1080p 60hz. I confirmed this with the manufacturer as I had already been using the camera for a few days before installing the firmware update. They said that they are working on resolving this, which is good, but it is absolutely NOT acceptable to limit the functionality of a camera after it is purchased.#3: This is an always on camera when it is plugged in, meaning it continues to run even when it is not communicating with an application (most other webcams shut off). This may not matter to everyone, and this is probably something they can fix down the road with a firmware update, but it still needs to be mentioned.While the above issues are frustrating, I will likely be keeping this webcam. The only alternative with a comparable sensor is twice the price of the S3. You are getting a lot of IQ for your money with this. Hopefully they continue to improve the camera over time.

I’ve been looking for a webcam with actual DSLR-like quality, and the Yololiv S3 is it. This tiny camera has totally amazed me. Replaced my SONY ZV-1f that I was using as a webcam.To begin with, the image quality is outstanding. The enlarged 1/1.3″ CMOS sensor makes a significant difference, particularly in low light, and the 4K footage is clean and sharp. With an outstanding, organic backdrop blur that other cameras simply cannot match, my videos appear professional. It appears as though I’m using a much more costly mirrorless camera.Another noteworthy feature is autofocus. The PDAF (Phase-Detection Autofocus) mechanism makes it incredibly accurate and quick. I don’t have to deal with that bothersome hunting; I can move around, hold up objects, and the attention instantly returns to my face.The construction quality and design are also fantastic. The all-metal body is made to operate continuously without overheating and feels extremely high-end. It features a normal tripod mount for further flexibility, and the magnetic mount is a great feature that makes it very simple to attach to my display.With its robust software, you can adjust every option just like you would with a DSLR. For a fantastic image right out of the box, you can adjust anything from contrast and sharpness to color grading, or you can just let the AI do its thing.I highly recommend the Yololiv S3 for everyone who wishes to look their best during video conversations (Zoom, Teams, etc), whether they are streamers, content creators, or just regular people. This is a game changer !!!!
