  1. Solid Rock Recording

Very solid product and trustworthy company!
The image quality is good and camera is well built and is heavy and feels substantial in your hands. Additionally, this is a fantastic company to deal with. I had a slight issue with my camera and they proactively reached out to me and got me taken care of.

Great add to the live streaming
The video quality of this 4K HDMI webcam is great! We use it with a video switcher and primarily for live streaming, and it performs very well. The image is crisp, and the setup is smooth, making it very easy and convenient to use for live productions. We haven’t tried the Ethernet option yet, but we’re looking forward to exploring that feature in the future.Overall, the experience has been excellent. Customer service was responsive and helpful with our initial setup questions. Highly recommend this camera for anyone doing live streaming or professional video work.

Solid hardware, garbage software and firmware
I purchased this camera to replace the Logitech Brio for online meetings because it has mechanical zoom. I wanted to be able to zoom in on me without the loss of quality. The Brio has a wide angle lens and digital zoom, so without the zoom too much of the surrounding room is visible, and with zoom there is a loss of quality.I like the NearStream VM20 image quality, white balance, and autofocus. The mechanical zoom is great. I haven’t tried the built-in microphones. Hardware build is pretty solid. The camera is a bit bulky as compared with a typical webcam. I have it mounted on an arm behind and above my monitor. My MacBook Pro can’t provide enough power to the camera with everything else that’s plugged in, so the camera is getting its power from the power strip. The biggest complaint here is that the camera tends to reset its settings, perhaps after the computer goes to sleep. At any rate, before the first Zoom meeting of the day I have to make sure the settings are dialed in. This involves using the remote to switch to my preset so that the camera zooms in. I also often find that the image is flipped horizontally, the focus mode is switched from Panorama to AI autoframing, and the brightness setting is reset. I can’t seem to make these settings permanent despite using the lock feature on the remote. Also, the menu text is reversed. The NearSync companion app for macOS is absolute garbage. It’s perhaps the buggiest piece of software I have used recently. On macOS Tahoe it’s completely broken: The image preview doesn’t show up, UI controls disappear after clicking the Refresh button, release notes haven’t been updated since 2024, the app sometimes won’t quit. Even on the previous version of macOS I still had to click the Refresh button for the app to fetch the camera settings. The app should just communicate with the camera right away.

    GREAT CAMERAS!! GREAT SUPPORT!!
We have a YouTube channel. We film in the kitchen of our home with 4 cameras. Last month we began replacing our cameras with NearStream VM-20. The first one was great. The second one had a problem with the focus. NearStream stepped up and replaced it right away. Since then we have purchased the third one. Next week we will get the fourth one. GREAT CAMERAS!! GREAT SUPPORT!!

    Great buy for the price
For it’s price this is a real good Camera 😊 once you make some adjustments in OBS Studio or on the camera app itself on your computer or laptop. It is pretty good

Studio-Level Results Without the Studio Price
I bought the NearStream VM20 as a brand-new content creator, and I’m honestly blown away. The image quality is crystal-clear — the 4K resolution makes my streams look professional instantly. The 40x hybrid zoom is insane for close-ups and product shots without losing detail. The biggest surprise was the audio. The 8 built-in noise-canceling mics make my voice sound clean even with background noise in the house. I plugged it in, selected it in OBS, and was streaming in minutes — zero learning curve. If you’re new to streaming, product reviews, or live teaching and want a massive upgrade without building a full camera setup, this thing delivers. Highly recommend.

Nice hardware hampered by inconsistent software/autofocus
What you have with the VM20 is a webcam with a nice optical zoom, basically a camcorder with nice optical zoom. (As an aside, if you are looking at this product, you might consider instead an actual camcorder if advertises webcam functionality.) I have one feature on webcams that I place near complete importance, its auto focus. A great many webcams are able to auto focus, but suffer from a frequent re-focusing if the subject moves, even just a little. I find this very distracting. On some of the webcams I’ve used in the past, my work around is to disable manual auto focus, and manually focus; if this is an option, I can probably live with it. The frustrating thing about this camera is that its software is not only not intuitive, but when I try to defeat autofocus in the manufacture’s camera software, it would continue to try to autofocus. In fairness, I didn’t spend a lot of time troubleshooting. That is because I found a similar optical zoom webcam from Mokose that just works, and works well. This NearStream will be returned.

Well… I really wish I could be stunned and amazed by this, but I’m not. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad camera. The issue here is the quality, which is clearly great. If you actually look closely, you can see the difference between this camera and a significantly cheaper one. The file sizes can also indicate this, if you try and stress test it to really see what it can do. But, just like with many other high tech products, the quality difference isn’t really noticable by the naked eye, unless you’re actively looking for it.Functionality wise it offers a great list of features, but non of them are really ground breaking. Yes, you can buy cheaper cameras, that might not have them, but at this day and age, that’s starting to become a rarity.I’m not really convinced that this is really the best option for “streaming”. For the actvities most streamers do nowadays, this is an absolute overkill.Personally, I would much rather recommend this to be used as an “outdoors streaming” camera, where the remote control, the compact size and the stable picture capture would be more useful. So, overall, I this is an amazing and easy to use camera, but it’s definitely not for everyone. I would only consider this as upgrade, because it’s main adventages can only be utilized in more advanced setups.

My brother has a channel and he was looking for a professional camera that could meet his needs such as good battery life, good image quality, and light weight and this one certainly met all the requirements. It’s a great investment if you’re looking for quality.

  11. A. Skudder

This is a high-spec camera with loads of features and a good build quality.I do think that most of the picture and sound quality and the capabilities will be wasted on most non-professional users though. If you are just going to use it for Zoom meetings and hobby streaming then it will do a good job but something costing a tenth of the price will also do a good enough job, although if the Zoom meetings are in a meeting room with several people then some of the AI features will come in handy.I do know that this is a lot more camera than I need or can use personally, but it has so many connection options that it would cope with just about any scenario. Being able to connect an external mic and link with other cameras just makes it even more capable. The price of this should be a huge clue, but this is not a toy or just a simple webcam, but a professional tool for producing broadcast quality images and could be used to capture large events or for serious streaming.

  12. David B

Probably the best camera of its type that I have ever used, and at £300, it is something of a premium product. It is at its best on a tripod or small stand where you can position this carefully for recording; it is also ideal for recording any type of video presentation where you want a very good quality video of the presented. I am using it to livestream conferences, and it does the job exceptionally well. Because of the size, it is less useful on your desk, it takes up a lot of space and can be a distraction whilst working. I could probably use it for Zoom, etc., but the angles are odd, and the green light is right in front of me. But for great cameras for good-quality presentations, this is exceptional.

  13. UKT

This is an interesting camera in that you can buy 30 cheap internal cameras for the same price. The difference is in the quality. The connections are fairly standard in that it can be connected via HDMI, USB or Ethernet. I did not try an Ethernet connection and it was not clear if PoE was essential or just improved the operation. The camera has a level of AI built in with its smart framing which keeps the subject in the centre of attention. This works in conjunction with the smart zooming which can make it ideal for meetings with several people in the same room. The camera supports Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) which is a long established standard and is very useful if you want to use the camera for live transmission over the Internet. It offers low latency and a high level of compatibility. The camera has a 5MP CMOS sensor that can deliver quality video at 4K resolution. It can also work well a low light levels. There is an eight microphone simple sound array with noise reduction which produces a good quality of sound. The majority of functions can be controlled by the provided remote control.
