Terrible product with multiple critical failures. After trying several models, AVOlD this brand
I got this to replace a higher level product also made by Agptek. That one had its own issues and stopped working entirely after a couple years of light use.So I get this Agptek in the hope I could use the old remote and have 2 that work for it.I plug it in and at first it won’t display anything. My TV didn’t even recognize something was connected to the HDMI.I switch to another TV and get it to work. Then I navigate the top menu of the media player to settings and the player freezes. After a couple minutes it tells me it has to restart. It restarts and immediately freezes again on the top menu without me doing anything. After a very long time, it happens to work for a short time, long enough to find out the included AV connections don’t work at all.I also discover that it won’t recognize my very standard 2tb external USB hard drive. At all. This was the same critical failure that caused me to have to replace the old Agptek.I did some research and couldn’t find any good way to get product support.I was done at this point, loaded it back in its box and ordered another brand of media player of similar price. This one recognized and plays the hard drive without issue. These experiences cause me to recommend you stay away from not only this product but the whole brand.

Crashes more often than it works.
I got this to play back home movies I had digitized at 1080p 60fps H264. With less than ten files loaded, I could get one playing after two or three crashes. It would bounce back to the home screen each time. Annoying, but at least usable. Everything looked great when it finally got going. When I got all 27 videos on the card, it wouldn’t do anything but crash. I tried higher compression for lower file sizes. I tried lower resolution. It just kept crashing. I finally got it “working” by putting all of the files in three separate folders of nine files each. It still takes several crashes to get going, but it will eventually play. I don’t understand what is causing this temperamental behavior beyond some unknown limit on the number of files you can have in one folder? In any case, it really shouldn’t be this hard to get a device to do the one thing it is designed for. Knowing what I know now, I would recommend getting a mini PC over this. They’re only $140, and they can play video much more reliably in addition to being a fully capable computer.

Broken subtitles, defeats the purpose
I bought it because it said it could display subtitles. It can, but only the first subtitle track. You’re able to select other subtitle tracks in the menu, but once exiting the menu it will revert back to the first subtitle track, while all other settings changes remain. Also seems to only be capable of displaying the bare minimum subtitles, not respecting color & position data. I tried looking for information about subtitles in the instructions book, but the page it says that information is located on in the index does not have it, & the only mention is a single sentence in the FAQ page which tells you to switch tracks if you can’t see the subtitles, which you can’t even do due to the previously mentioned issue. This means that if dialogue isn’t the first track or if the first track isn’t the right language you’ll never know what’s going on in the video, especially if you have hearing issues like me & can’t make out words. Do not buy if you need subtitles for any reason.

A compact, versatile solution to play media without internet.
I needed a simple media player that I could run with a projector on a loop for halloween and I didn’t have much time to tinker. Luckily this player was perfect for the job and easy to use. The menu system is surprisingly good– it’s all on one page– and it played and looped my 30min video with sound, just as expected. Add in its AV cable for classic SDTVs and you have an easy way to achieve off-the-grid video playback most anywhere.

Lives up to all my expectations
I wanted to burn my DVD collection and play it on the tv, especially when I have no internet connection for streaming. My TV only supports FAT32 so I needed something that could play exFAT or NTFS and this looked like it should do it. It’s really easy to use, the menu is simple with no combability issues on any devices I tried. MY Hard Drive with the 4k videos worked seamlessly with the decoder between the drive and TV. This little box is amazing.

Review ratings – I cannot equate these good reviews with my experience, and is being returned.Issues:1) Compatible with SSDs & HDDs ? – NOT Samsung HDD. I plugged in a 2TB SSD & Samsung HDD (1.36TB), 18+hours later I abandoned this, I found out later that if I unplugged the HDD it worked. NB the HDD works fine with my computer & other TVs.2) Performance: SSD (2TB), ex Fat, MP4 files, videos with various frame sizes eg 568, 720, 1080 at 25fps: all gave an unacceptable jerky playback even when the scenes are only changing moderately quickly, and are unwatchable. It seemed as though some of the frames were being dropped to catch-up with the overall 25fps speed – hardware issue? The same videos played back through my computer system or a TV showed correct playback.3) If I used “fast forward” & then tried to play from that point, sometimes it would enter a 1-2sec repeat of the same short clip. The only way out I could find was to stop & restart the video – somewhat defeats the purpose of a FF mode. From the other reviews I had high expectations with this device.I don’t like giving poor reviews but this item surprised me. Maybe I just had a bad unit.
